Q: In what way did your CP arise from a local need or perspective? Why doesn’t, might not the local government fill this need adequately? To whom is your CP accountable?

A:  My decision to reach out to a former organization that I had discovered and volunteered for was:    National Center For Equine Facilitated Therapy.

  https://www.nceft.org/

My interest in this organization was/is three (3) fold:

I am an equestrian and love riding, whether it be Trail, English or Western Saddle, etc. Love of horses and people

Desire to volunteer in an area of interest, where I could speak from experience to all ages and backgrounds of those needing therapeutic assistance

Proximity to my home (Redwood City-Woodside)

Friends either worked there or were board members

The organization receives funding through grants, private and corporate donations and is in part given grants from the U.S. Government (Military) for returning service people that are experiencing a need for therapy of some kind or another.  In a number of cases, board members are either directly involved through their family members who require services, members who are vetinarians, pediatricians, or psychologists, psychiatrists.  The recipients of services have the ability-opportunity to choose a number of therapies, and equine therapy is one. Much to do with horses is expensive and out of reach for many. The sessions are life changing and an integral part of one’s recovery, regardless of their malady(s).

The organization has multiple areas of accountability:  U.S. Government, Private & Corporate Donations and staff members.  The U.S. Government is not always in the business of providing first hand therapy(s) to citizens directly, but do so via responsible, viable and trusted organizations.  The science of mental well-being and recovering therapeutics is an integral part of how the organization get U.S. Government funding.
